DAVID NEBEL comes from Zurich and started playing the violin at the age of five. His extraordinary talent was discovered early on. The New Züricher Newspaper called him a “child prodigy with future prospects”. David Nebel is now a sought-after soloist and combines technical brilliance with mature musicality and an unmistakable tone. He devotes himself to contemporary repertoire with great openness and deliberately plays works that go beyond the standard violinist's program. “We mustn't forget that music continues to develop throughout history,” says David Nebel.
David Nebel first attended the Zurich Conservatory and later studied with Boris Kuschnir in Vienna and Yair Kless in Graz. In 2013 he began his studies with Alexander Gilman, the head of the LGT Young Soloists. David Nebel was a founding member of this string ensemble with highly talented soloists. Numerous tours have taken him through Europe and Asia. In March 2017 he opened the fall season of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra as one of the soloists. In summer 2018 he made his debut at the Kissinger Summer Festival with Kristjan Järvi and the Baltic Sea Philharmonic Orchestra with a world premiere of Gediminas Gelgotas' Violin Concerto No. 1 (2018). In addition, David Nebel has already performed as a soloist on important concert stages, including the Liederhalle Stuttgart, the Kulturcasino Bern, the Palais Liechtenstein Vienna, the Gasteig Munich (with live recording by Bavarian Radio "Bayerischer Rundfunk"), the Shenzhen Concert Hall, the China Pavilion Shanghai, in the Cape Town City Hall in South Africa and in the Chernihiv Philharmonic.
David Nebel achieved a remarkable success in 2014 as the youngest winner of the renowned Valsesia Musica violin competition in Italy. In 2015 he won first prize at the István Kertész competition in Switzerland. In January 2017 he and Dusan Kostic won the Belgrade Radio Symphony Orchestra competition for young soloists with Giovanni Bottesini's Gran Duo Concertante for violin and double bass.
In May 2020 David Nebel's debut album Violin Concertos was released by SONY, for which he recorded the violin concertos by Philip Glass and Igor Stravinsky with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Baltic Sea Philharmonic under the direction of Kristjan Järvi. The CD was enthusiastically received by the press: "a brilliant and furious event" (Rondo) and has been nominated for the German Record Critics' Prize in the concert category.
David Nebel is a 2018 Fellow of the Young Artists Foundation GmbH. He plays a privately donated violin by Antonio Stradivari from 1707.
